If you exceed your plan’s backup storage limit:

  • Free plan — New backups are blocked when storage reaches 90% of the limit. Delete old backups or upgrade to continue.
  • Paid plans — Backups continue past the limit. Overage is calculated using a smoothed average (trimmed mean P90) of your daily storage over the billing period — this discards the top 10% of spike readings so a single bad day doesn’t inflate your bill. Overage is charged on your renewal invoice at your plan’s per-GB rate.

Each plan has a configurable monthly overage cap — the maximum you can be charged for storage overage in a single billing period. This protects you from unexpected bills if storage spikes temporarily.

  • If your raw overage charge exceeds the cap, you only pay up to the cap amount
  • Admins can set a per-customer cap override for special arrangements
  • A cap of $0 means unlimited (no cap applied)

When you have storage overage, the Billing page shows a “What if I upgrade?” panel. This simulates how upgrading to a higher plan would affect your total monthly cost — factoring in the plan price difference and reduced (or eliminated) overage charges. Plans that save you money are highlighted.

You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time from the Billing section of your dashboard.

  • Upgrading — Takes effect immediately. You’re charged the prorated difference.
  • Downgrading — Takes effect at the end of your current billing period. Excess resources (servers, instances) are not deleted but become read-only until you’re within the new plan’s limits.
